VISIT GOLD BEACH AND SOUTHERN OREGON COAST
You could spend a week here and not feel you have spent enough time. That is because time seems to stand still.
The sun shines almost every day in the summer months in this little part of the Gold Coast, the golden sunshine is just a part of this little part of the Oregon coast.
Just to the south you can spend a day at the Redwood forest, a strip of trees that grow in only one place on earth. The last of these magnificent trees can be seen just 50 miles south of us. Jedediah State Park (northern California) is the place to spend the day, witnessing the giants of the forest. Nothing harmed these trees, they are bug resistant, disease resistant, and fire resistant only man was able to harm them. Still, there is a park of protected giants, and this is a once in a lifetime must see.

While in Gold Beach, visit the port. You will be able to ride a jet boat up the Rouge River, visit a museum and gift shop, eat at a local restaurant, and see an art gallery, all right at the port, overlooking the bay.
From the port you can drive up the Rogue River, one of the last wild rivers. See nature as it was years ago, with little traffic, construction or crowds. There are many walking trails to visit old growth trees, the natural and wild Rogue River, wildlife, and beautiful scenery and nature. There are trails for every level from beginner to advanced.

The southern coast of Oregon has the wide black sand beaches, and the sunshine!
Explore miles of sandy beaches. Find agates left by the ocean after they have traveled down the Rogue River and have been tumbled in the sands of the beach. Almost every visitor finds agates on the beaches.
Find ropes, floats, and fisherman nets that have washed ashore, some have come from far away lands and have been carried by the tides. After every storm (especially good in winter and early spring) you can find all kinds of ocean treasures, some are quite valuable! The storms bring in artifacts from lands far away.
Even the driftwood is beautiful, with knarled and polished woods from all over, cleaned and sanded by the ocean and the sand, these pieces of polished and interesting drift wood are great for projects. They are lovely in the garden, and some exotic woods can be found washed up on the shore as well.
Sea Shells are not plentiful on our coast, the awesome sea is too active in our part of the world, most shells do not survive the trip to the beach. Yet every once in a while you will find an intact sea shell, and you know this sea shell has a tale to tell! What a trip it has survived!
Who knows, you may even find a message in a bottle, as our gifts from the sea travel many miles before they land on our soft sand shores. Who knows what story they will tell?
